 Age of group members ranged from 49 to 87. This 87 year old, trying out a blowgun, impressed me with her sprightly attitude and eagerness to sample everything.  Human interactions such as this native dance, transcend cultural and language barriers. Some indigenous peoples speak Quechua, an Incan language, rather than Spanish. To complicate matters further, there are various Quechua dialects.  Our one night in the Amazon was spent at the rustic Sinchicuy ("fat guinea pig") Lodge, nestled on an inlet tributary of the Amazon. No hot water or electricity. Food mediocre (but by this time I was ill with bronchitis and sinusitis).  Note kerosene lamps at end of walkway.  Children have a certain irresistible charm (part of it, for me, was their willingness to be photographed).  Victoria Regia water lily pads may grow up to 2 meters (over 6 feet) in diameter. There are more than 25,000 classified plant species in the Peruvian Amazon (80,000 in the entire Amazon Basin, including Brazil), 4000 species of butterfly and 2000 species of fish. 25% of all modern medicines have botanical origins in tropical forests. Our group physician seemed to have a special affinity for birds and children.  The water in tributaries of the River is less brown; less soil is being redistributed.
